Trent Valley Archives (TVA) introduces its first 2025 Peterborough walking tour on Sundays, May 18th and 25th, 2025 at 2 pm. Entitled “The Irish Arrive” and led by historian & archivist Dr. Elwood Jones, this downtown walking tour will paint a picture of what life was like for the 1825 Peter Robinson emigrants as they arrived in their new land. 2024 men, women and children stepped ashore at Little Lake in October 1825 after a long and arduous journey from Ireland to Upper Canada aboard nine ships. Prior to proceeding to their allotted lands, they set up camp in Peterborough and became familiar with the area. This tour will paint a picture of what life was like for these newcomers during their first few months and what the growing community in Peterborough looked like. During the walk, you’ll get to see the area where the 1825 depot was located as well as the Peter Robinson headquarters.
This tour begins at the Pathway of Fame in Del Crary Park and is primarily on flat ground but may not be accessible for everyone. Wear comfortable shoes and please dress appropriately for the weather as the tour runs rain or shine. Cost is $20 per person Tickets are available on the website, www.trentvalleyarchives.com/events , by calling 705-745-4404 or by emailing admin@trentvalleyarchives.com.
